BOSC Gives Back

TOGETHER we give back...
In February please support Cause ~ Helping America’s Wounded!

Focus on Philanthropy this month takes a look at Cause-Helping America’s Wounded. Comfort for America’s Uniformed Services (CAUSE) provides programs for recovering servicemen and women healing from injuries incurred while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Founded in 2003 by a group of West Point graduates and their spouses, Cause has since expanded to serve almost 50 percent of this wounded population. They provide programs that help to take the service member’s mind off their injuries and promote healing and relaxation.
Some of these programs include mobile game carts that bring video games and DVD’s right to the serve member’s bed side. Video game playing has been shown to reduce heightened stress related and may even reduce PTSD flashbacks. They provide massage and reiki techniques that help those suffering from PTSD and combat stress.
Cause provides gift packs designed to bring comfort and say “thank you” to military members that have received injuries in combat. Cause also coordinates events like picnics, game and karaoke nights, and spa days so that soldiers and family members can unwind and have a little fun.
How can you help? Cause is February’s BOSC Philanthropy charity. At January’s luncheon I had asked everyone to bring used DVD’s and games but, however, after speaking to Cause again their need has changed. They are now in the need of electronic handheld video games to place in the packages that they give to the wounded warriors staying at Ft. Belvoir and at Walter Reed.
By handheld video games I am referring to those that you can find at any store in the toy sections such as Solitary, Uno, Simon, Poker or any such titles (not PSP, or Nintendo DS). These games average about $5.00 or less. If you have any questions, please feel free to me. Just drop your donations off at the Philanthropy table at the February Luncheon. If you would like to help even more, please contact Brianna Broad at www.cause-usa.org.

PhilLuncheonJan12.jpgMany thanks to everyone who contributed to the Gift Card Drive for the families who experienced losses due to fire. Thanks to the generosity of our BOSC Members we donated more than $1200.

At each of our luncheons, BOSC gives our members the opportunity to contribute items or monetary donations to support groups that care for our military and their families. In the past, BOSC's Philanthropy and Outreach has contributed to wonderful groups like TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors), a group that provides all forms of support and help for the families who have lost a military service member; Sew Much Comfort, which provides FREE modified clothing and uniforms for wounded service members, and BOSS (Better Opportunities for Single Service members); the DC VA Hospital; and many more.
